Let’s Talk About Lube

 Let’s Talk About Lube

Slippery when wet. Yes please!

First things first, contrary to common belief, lube is for everyone. Needing to use lube does not mean that you are not turned on or “in to” your partner. There are a wide range of things that affect a woman’s ability to self-lubricate (stress, medication, birth control, etc...).

Even if you have no trouble turning on the water works, lube can still make sexual adventures more fun and pleasurable for everyone involved. Also, the anus does not self-lubricate, so lube is always important when it comes to anal play.

Why Use Lube?

For starters, lube can take good sex to the next level. It can help increase sensation and heighten pleasure during sexy time.

Lube reduces friction (obviously). Less friction means more pleasure. This will also decrease the chances of microtears in your sensitive vaginal tissue and lessen the chance of condoms breaking.

Being extra slippery can also heighten your sensitivity and increase your chance of orgasm.

If you’re into marathons, lube is an absolute must. No matter how much your body naturally lubricates, it won’t last for hours on end. So, keep lube handy for those long nights. It’s also an important thing to keep handy if you plan on getting busy in the shower or pool.

What Kind of Lube Should I Use?

Well, there are quite a few options and it will depend on your personal preference and the type of sexy time you’re planning.

Water-Based Lubes: These are great for an all-around go-to and a must if you have silicone toys. They are versatile, typically condom safe, and won’t stain your sheets. The downside is that you will need to reapply often as they don’t last very long.

Silicone Lubes: These are the longest lasting and waterproof (perfect for shower sex)! This also makes them a great choice for anal play. DO NOT use silicone lube with silicone toys. Silicone lube is also typically condom safe, but always make sure to read the packaging to be sure. The downside here is that it can stain your sheets and will need to be washed off.

Oil-Based Lubes: Oil-based lubes, like vitamin E and almond oil, are great for external sexual play. You should avoid using them internally. They are also not compatible with condoms and should only be used with glass or metal toys.

Flavored Lubes: These are a great addition to oral play time. These follow the same recommendations as above. Make sure they’re sugar free though otherwise you might have some yeast issues develop.

Anal Lube: Anal lubes usually tend to be a little thicker and longer lasting. Some of them have a desensitizer in them to make it a little more comfortable. BUT I would not recommend those. If you can’t feel what’s happening you won’t enjoy it as much AND more importantly, if you can’t feel pain, you won’t be able to communicate to your partner if you need to slow down or stop.

Warming and Tingling Lubes: These can be fun to add some new sensations. If you tend to be sensitive, make sure you test it on a small area before going to wild otherwise sexy time could be over before it starts. (I know from personal experience lol)

To recap: Only use water-based lubes with your toys, use silicone lube for marathon sex and water sex, and pull out those flavors for oral play.
